Eisenberg 1940s Ads
Eisenberg had shown jewelry in their ads prior to the 1940s, but once they incorporate Eisenberg Jewelry Inc. their advertising would become equally split, and often would promote both at the same time.

Description
B. Altman & Co. Store Ad
Jewelry of the future...clearcut and dazzling as an iceberg in sunlight...modern, unashamedly enormous. That's the Eisenberg look and a new one for costume pieces, either in this pure diamond-white rhinestone, or in jeweled colors. We introduce them to New York now in this super-colossal ring 10.00, the brace of earrings 6.50, the breathtaking spray 12.50, necklace of crocodile tears 20.00, and the bracelet 10.00. Wear them...it's an adventure.
NOTE - Eisenberg Jewelry was incorporated at the end of 1940 or the very beginning of 1941; I haven't been able to confirm the date. So while they had been making clips for a few years this was the start of a "line" and is here being announced by a store that was excited to carry the new jewelry discovery.

Description
Eisenberg & Sons Original
Eisenberg dresses and Eisenberg jewelry were made for each other...designed with that understanding of American life and American women that has made the Eisenberg label famous.

NOTE - Echoes of the advertising for Irma's "Autographed Originals" from the 1930s.
The Eisenberg Original jewelry matches the amazing Eisenberg Original jacket closures, and of course the clothing is Eisenberg, barring darn it, the hat.

Description
An Eisenberg Original
that unites simple line and intricate detail -- A combination that sets off furs for fall and looks well under a coat later on. Shirred ruching forms giant patch-pockets on bodice and hip. The straight sleeve gains interest from its unusual side closing, fastened by three widely spaced buttons. For the lively touch so essential in fall clothes, there are jeweled flower buttons and a contrasting ascot.
NOTE - Sharon owns the original of this image but the seller is still offering copies. The description is from the original press release information on rear.

Description
Eisenberg & Sons Original
Eisenberg Originals in a special Onondaga sheer.
Shown at finer stores throughout America. Write Eisenberg & Sons, 847 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois, for the name of the store nearest you****

NOTE - additions at collars and cuffs were popular Eisenberg details. Given that the advertising was done in grayscale, Eisenberg would choose more often than not to use darker dresses, suits, and jackets with sparkly or light colored accents. This mistakenly led to the impression that they only did "little black dresses." In actuality the reviews of Eisenberg showings would highlight the color combinations and hues used.

Description

Moonlight over southern seas...and an ensemble in foam white. Its jacket, bright with jeweled tracery. Its dress, depending on line alone for its slim, distinguished beauty.

NOTE - I actually have this jacket and will photograph it soon. Interestingly this ad does not have any addresses or other details about Eisenberg other than the label.

Eisenberg & Sons Original
Women who love Eisenberg dresses...and live in them...could write a book about their philosophy of clothes. But it all sums up to this: the best economy...now, more than ever...is the dress that feels right because it is right, right in fashion, sound in quality.
Case in point...these two suit dresses in a sheer crepe that drapes beautifully, cleans beautifully, expresses perfectly the personality of Eisenberg Originals.

NOTE - This was a bit of a return to the earlier beads and colors used in the 1930s. In large part because supplies were getting low of the imported crystal stones.
Gold-plated sterling is called Vermeil.

AMERICAN ICE IN GOLD-DIPPED STERLING

EISENBERG JEWELRY INC *
222 West North Bank Drive, Chicago
JEWELERS * PERFUMERS * DRESSMAKERS

NOTE - They had almost made it, but "AMERICAN ICE" was forced upon them. There were no more Czech stones to be had, at least not in enough quantity of any one type. The war had finally outlasted supply, or the limited trade being brought in. Companies, including Eisenberg, had to substitute with the best local stones they could find.

Eisenberg's American Ice
Cut-for-lustre stones, perfection of a new American technique...presented in Eisenberg Original costume jewelry, hand-set in sterling silver.

EISENBERG JEWELRY, INC
222 West North Bank Drive, Chicago

NOTE - The "AMERICAN ICE" highlighted in this ad all have a slight blue tint to them.
The American stones were pressed which created much less glow, so the cut was terribly important in the effort to duplicate the luminescence of the missing imported stones. Put a clear "American Ice" piece up against an earlier imported Czech crystal and see what you think.

NOTE - This is a department store ad highlighting a designer they carry, in this case Eisenberg. It's also an ad announcing the 50th anniversary of this elite store.
By this time there would have been a complete Eisenberg section in the store offering the clothing, jewelry, accessories, and perfume.

NOTES - 1. Sharon owns this exact dress and it's shown in the book, but not this ad. 2. This is the first time, in my ads collection, we see Eisenber Ice© with a trademark statement. 3. That large brooch is stunning, and readily available as a fake...the original should be this sterling.
